The hallways of Ridge High School are like the runways of the New York Fashion Week. Every student contributes a unique look that expresses herself or himself every day. There are quite a few new additions to winter fashion must-haves for girls this year, from shoes to sweaters to pants, and everything in between.

In shoes, white high-top Chuck Taylors (Converse) are an absolute necessity. They go with everything, from dresses to jeans. Converse shoes are wearable in any season and they can be found at almost any shoe store for as cheap as $20. Adidas Superstar shoes seem to be an overnight trend, and are growing in popularity amongst girls at Ridge. They are sold at the Adidas store for between $80 and $110.

Another shoe necessity is boots. Specifically, ankle boots are becoming increasingly popular. Boots paired with jeans, a cashmere sweater with rolled sleeves over a collar shirt, topped with a scarf or statement necklace is a chic and preppy look that can be seen time and time again in the hallways. Riding boots have always been a trend at Ridge, and that hasn’t changed at all this year. In fact, Bella Kurtas ‘18 states that her favorite winter fashion item is “definitely riding boots.”

In clothing, turtlenecks are making a massive comeback this year. Turtlenecks are seen on sweaters, shirts and dresses, in many different heights and materials. Also, a new style of jeans- Boyfriend jeans- have been making an appearance at Ridge this year. Boyfriend jeans are, without a doubt, the way to go for either a lazy or high fashion outfit, as they go with everything. To dress Boyfriend jeans down, wearers can pair them with a sweatshirt or an oversized sweater, but they can also easily be paired with cute booties and a sweater or crop top for a stylish and cool look.

For the guys this winter, a wristwatch is absolutely essential. However, the biggest fashion statement for guys is still shoes, as they have been for the last decade or so. Nikes are common amongst guys in the winter , along with Timberlands, as the weather necessitates a more sturdy, warm shoe. Alex Sharma ‘19 reveals that his “favorite shoe company is Nike.” Beyond shoes, a common “look” for males in Ridge is the pairing of khaki chinos with a sweatshirt.
