On Tuesday, March 12, 2024 on an unseasonably warm day, the Ridge Unified Basketball team celebrated Senior Night. The team recognized 11 graduating seniors who played this season, and many who competed in past seasons.
The Senior Night game was held in the Ridge High School gym and players from the 70-member Unified roster faced off against each other. The Ridge vs. Ridge game had one side wearing green, the other team white.
At halftime, the score was 28-17 (green vs. white) and in the second half, the gap closed. The final score was 51-41 with senior Ava Polos scoring a three-point shot in the last seven seconds of the game.
Before the team’s basketball jerseys were returned for the final time to Coach Mitchell and Coach Stanzione, captains organized the team for the last time for a full group picture.
”Senior Night always holds a special place in my heart because it’s an opportunity for all of our fans and our entire team to see how incredible our seniors are. I’m honored to have coached our seniors over the past few years and to see their growth, as players and people. The entire team did so well this season, with a competitive schedule and so many new members to our team. I can’t wait to see this team compete in the Unified Cup later this spring!” -Madison Mitchell (Unified Coach).
The Ridge Unified Basketball Team played in 13 games during the regular season and ended with a record of 8-5. This included tough competition in two tournaments where Ridge played teams from Bridgewater, Chatham, Mendham, Millburn, Monroe, Sparta, Union City, and more. The team also played a short half-time game at the Ridge Varsity Basketball team’s game showcasing Ridge White versus Ridge Green on January 30th. Fans cheered loudly from the stands and took their support to Instagram where Ridge Unified has a loyal following.
